From the creators of Silence: The Musical, a musical version of Silence of the Lambs…. Arnold Schwarzenegger performs “Crom!” from Conan the Barbarian: The Musical.
Very pleased that AMC has officially greenlit the pilot for The Walking Dead. Here’s the news from Variety:
“The Walking Dead” is based on the graphic novel series about survivors of a zombie apocalypse by Robert Kirkman. Frank Darabont penned the adaptation and is onboard to direct. Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion will exec produce with Darabont.
“The Walking Dead” revolves around a group of survivors, led by a police officer, who travel the country in search of a safe home.
Working with people like Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd is the right way in for us to deliver a project of distinction in this genre,” AMC prexy Charlie Collier said.
I’ve been an avid reader of this series for quite some time. Its strength resides in the human characters, their interactions, and how an undead apocalypse really might affect “normal” people. And with the deep pool of talent that is Frank Darabont at the helm, this should be a fantastic series.
I believe this made it on my list of favorite films. Love Actually is one of those movies that just clicks with me, despite the seeming contradictions associated with a guy who writes about zombies, crooked cops, and the end of the world. I was just in a deli wherein the radio was playing “Wherever You Will Go” - a song that I would otherwise castrate as a sub-par Matchbox 20 ditty (the band is apparently called The Calling) - and I immediately recollected its inclusion in the film. If I should ever find myself back in the position of writing an ensemble rom-com, Love Actually will certainly be my template. Additionally, as I’ve said before, each of the storylines included in the picture could’ve been individual films in their own right. Ergo, if I don’t go the ensemble route, perhaps I’ll just steal one of those.
In the June issue of Empire Magazine, writer/director Frank Darabont was charged with writing about his Top 10 favorite films. The task spiraled out of control as he realized its impossibility - he couldn’t possibly narrow it down to just 10. Ultimately, he opted for his Top 10 favorites - in each of 22 genres.
I immediately found myself modifying his list, bending it to my own preferences and obsessions. Like Darabont’s, what follows is not an expression of the “best” films of each genre. These are personal favorites, movies that speak to me in spite of their inclusion or exclusion from any other list that might label them as “classics” or otherwise. Additionally, films are not listed in order of preference, and the genre headings - again borrowed from Darabont - are “loose definitions at best.”
Yes, I owe you kind folks an update or two on certain things. And, yes, I’ve got a couple specific entries in the hopper. But, truth be told, I’m both a tad swamped and fighting an on-going battle with the Post-Con Cough (PCC). Expect things to improve in the near future.
Hi, Blogosphere. I know I’ve been away for a while. I can make a fair amount of excuses and offer my share of apologies, but the truth is that I just wasn’t in the right place before. It wasn’t you. It was me.
But, now I’m back!
And this time things will be different. First of all, check out the name of the site. That’s right. It’s my own personal domain. No bloggersplot. No crafty header - I’m looking at you, Mediacopia! I’m putting MY name on it and out there. This is me and I’m comfortable being out here in the virtual all-’n-all.
Plus, you know what you’re gonna find here? No, not movie reviews and critiques. That would make this effort a hobby at best. No. This is a springboard, a launchpad. This is about my endeavors, my creations, my ideas and aspirations. Will I toss in my periodic opinions and endorsements of others and their work? Certainly. It just won’t be the centerpiece of the site.
Blogosphere, I just want to say that this time I am committed. I am dedicated to this relationship and will bring only my A-game. Might there be missteps? Sure. I just hope you’re big enough to forgive such foibles, secure in the knowledge that I will press on and make things better for us both.
